Alzheimer's Dementia - the most common cause of dementia in Australia - is associated with amyloid plaques in the brain.
The view on amyloid is shifting. It is now thought that amyloid is not the cause of dementia, rather that it is a defence mechanism used by the brain to defend against ongoing stressors.
